Day 2- Corning NY to Wellsboro PA: To Hill and Back

Another gorgeous day on the Anchor House ride. The temperature was in the low 60's as we rolled out of Corning

and it eventually got up to the low 80's, with low humidity and plenty of fluffy cloud cover. We are enjoying these temps as long as they last, as it's expected to be in the 90's in a few days. We looked cool as we stayed cool,  wearing our Anchor House "kits" as today was Anchor House jersey day.

As we headed south, before we knew it we were crossing over into Pennsylvania. Our time in NY was short but sweet. The scenery and riding in PA were spectacular- we passed plenty of farms and woodlands, and the roads were largely car free.

Today's ride is only 54 miles, but with as much climbing as yesterday's 80 mile day (3000 feet). This region of PA is called the Endless Mountains and now we understand. Our 3000 feet of climbing was mostly concentrated in several big climbs, two of which were 6 and 7 miles long. These climbs show up on our Garmin computers as impressive green mountains. We grinded out the climbs, and then enjoyed some steep and fun downhills (hit 42 mph at one point).

Some fun moments from the day:  Bruce enforcing the "No Bicycle Riding" policy at the second SAG location.

Bill Garrett biking with his "crew".on the streets of Wellsboro. We told his new friends that Bill was faster and fiercer than he looked.

Russ Buckley Jr. and Sr. and Bruce seeking redemption at Wheeler's Liquor Store. Luckily there is a no limit redemption  policy.

The day ended as we rolled into Wellsboro for a well deserved lunch at the historic Wellsboro diner. and of course, ice cream!

Of course, we enjoy ourselves this week, and endure whatever pain, aches, and sore butts that come with 500 miles of riding. But in the end, we are doing this ride to benefit the kids of Anchor House who will benefit greatly from the vital funds raised from this ride. We hope to raise $500,000 this year.
